NEWS: ICCI calls for Reducing Property Tax on Auto Market Plots

ISLAMABAD:  The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) on Sunday urged the government to reduce property tax on plots belonging to auto markets. The statement was made by ICCI President Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan during a visit of a delegation of the Islamabad Auto Market, I-10/3, Traders Welfare Association (TWA), led by its TWA President Musharraf Janjua and TWA Secretary General Salawar Khan Afridi who had come to highlight the issues of their market for redress. The ICCI president said that property tax on auto market plots had been increased from Rs6,440 to Rs14,000 in one go. Terming it an unjustified act, he urged the government for bringing property tax down to the previous level for providing relief to auto market traders. The auto traders further complained that water charges for auto market have also been increased from Rs1,750 to Rs4100, which was a massive increase and demanded that the charges should be rationalised to make them affordable. Total cement production hit an all-time high of 5.7 million tons in the month of October 2020, according to data from the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association, quoted in a research note sent by Topline Securities, an investment bank, to clients on Thursday, October 29, 2020.   Premier says country's coastal belt feasible to attract foreign tourism ISLAMABAD:  Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that growth in construction activities will strengthen the national economy and provide employment opportunities to the people. The prime minister said this while chairing a weekly meeting of the National Coordination Committee on Housing, Construction and Development on Friday. He directed the Punjab government to approve applications for construction as per prevailing laws as soon as possible, besides directing Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to work with the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to resolve issues related to the construction sector at the earliest. The PM also stressed on public awareness regarding the Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme. NEWS: 2 UPLIFT SCHEMES APPROVED ( LAHORE )

Punjab Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) approved two development schemes of Local Government and Primary & Secondary Healthcare Sectors at an estimated cost of Rs3.690 billion. These schemes were approved in the 14th meeting of PDWP of current fiscal year 2020-21 presided over by P&D Board Chairman Hamed Yaqoob Sheikh. All members of the P&D Board, provincial secretaries of departments concerned, Senior Chief (Coord) Javed Latif, Assistant Chief Coordination Shahid Idrees and other senior representatives of the relevant provincial departments also attended the meeting. On the occasion, P&D Board Chairman Hamed Yaqoob said the Punjab government had always focused on initiating such schemes that were not only economy concerned but also had a deeper impact on the sustainable development of the province. NEWS: LDA Prepares Proposals for Construction of Mall Road Tunnel ( Lahore )

LAHORE:  The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has started preparing proposals to maintain the flow of traffic on The Mall, which is the busiest road in the provincial capital,   Profit  learnt on Wednesday. As prominent markets like the Hall Road market, Neela Gumbad bicycle market, Anarkali bazaar, Baden Road market and many important government offices and courts are located on The Mall, it is becoming increasing difficult for the traffic police and other government departments to manage the flow of traffic, particularly on weekdays. Sources said the LDA has been tasked by Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar to work on proposals to improve traffic flow on the Mall Road. In this regard, the LDA started to work on two proposals: i) a two-way underpass at all ‘chowks’ on the road and ii) an underground tunnel from Mian Mir Bridge till Neela Gumbad Chowk, with exit points on various chowks. The depth of the tunnel would be 40 to 50 feet. A joint study has also been started by LDA

NEWS : Firdous Market underpass to be completed this week ( Lahore )

LAHORE:  The Firdous Market Underpass Project (FMUP), named Lal Shahbaz Qalandar Underpass, is all set to be completed during the current week after a long wait of six months, APP reported on Wednesday. The 540-meter long two-lane dual carriageway underpass would facilitate traffic from the adjoining areas, with special arrangements for water disposal. The project, for which around seven kanals was acquired, would benefit more than 91,000 vehicles daily and save fuel worth millions of rupees annually. It may be mentioned that the completion of construction work, carried out by the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), was delayed by three months as the project was supposed to be completed in August within 90 days after its start on May 19. The project was earlier estimated to be completed in four months, however, the LDA had been directed by Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar to complete its construction within 90 days.
